Recreational Trails Master Plan
The Municipality is preparing a Recreational Trails Master Plan (RTMP) to identify future trail routes and improvements to existing trails, promote healthy and active communities, and develop a long-range Master Plan to guide the development and implementation of a recreational trails network in the Municipality.
The process to develop a RTMP starts with a vision, which will guide the review of the current off-road trail system and identify areas for improvement and growth. The RTMP also provides best practice trail design guidance. Ultimately, the RTMP will identify a series of actions, policies, and programs that the municipality can take to guide the implementation of off-road recreational trails.
The RTMP is being developed consistent with Approach #2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.

Where could trails take you in Strathroy-Caradoc?
almost 3 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.Share your stories on what trails mean to you and your ideas about how to improve the trails network in Strathroy-Caradoc. Please share your ideas about how trails can improved, where they should go, or how trails can benefit you!
SherriWabout 3 years agoLook at Port Elgin's Trails for the Gold Standard. The many trail systems they have are stellar for all types of recreational activities.
Besides the paved Saugeen Rail Trail - Port Elgin's Woodland Trail system has no roots, is safe, walkable, bikable, and mobility accessable. They use a chipped wood base on the path that simply gets replenished by the forest trees when needed. If you fall off your bake you won't break your neck. We have never seen a more beautiful or professional system anywhere else. Why could we not duplicate that on our Conservation Trails? It would be MUCH safer than orange spray paint on extremely dangerously high roots sticking out of the dirt/stone. That screams of desparation that Strathroy will not put any $ into improving the trail. There are so many trees lying around in the forests that could be chipped to pad our trails. Not to mention it would look beautiful. Being avid trail users for years we've seen the good, bad and the ugly. Our trails leave a lot to be desired unfortuately. Lots of room for improvement. Strathroy is growing fast - lets show some pride for the only recreational trail we have. And make it safe and beautiful for everyone!

There are several forest tracts on either side of Metcalfe south of Strathroy around the cemetery/transfer station/wetland and behind Trout Haven... maintained trails and bridges would create more natural space for residents.

0 comment0Art Kasterover 3 years agoI would like to volunteer to help out with the planning of the trail system.
I would like to see some sand put on the highest used trails during the winter months. I use the trails all the time have have heard many people complaining about the ice.

A natural location for this trail would be along highway 81 between Strathroy and Mt Brydges, preferably as far way from vehicle traffic as possible. I believe persons living/working and visiting this area would use it regularly and it would attract others to the community.
