FAQs
- Construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) at a different site location treating some or all of Mount Brydges’s wastewater
- Pumping some or all of Mount Brydges’s wastewater to another existing treatment facility like the Strathroy WWTF
- Expanding the current Mount Brydges WWTF to meet future needs
- No, the Mount Brydges WWTF upgrade project provides urgently needed improvements to the WWTF to maintain compliance with regulatory limits and protect the environment. It will keep the Mount Brydges WWTF at its current rated capacity of 825m3/d. These upgrades have already received Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) approval.
- The Class EA is an independent project to determine how to meet future needs once the current WWTF is not large enough to serve residents and support planned community growth. Alternatives considered during the Class EA project will be evaluated against a number of performance, social, financial and environmental criteria. There will be opportunities for input on the evaluation process used to select a preferred approach and these will be communicated clearly and transparently.
What options are being evaluated as part of this project?
Some preliminary alternative solutions under consideration during Phase 2 of the Class EA may include (but not limited to):
Phase 3 of the EA will identify the preferred technical solution for the alternative selected during Phase 2.
If the Municipality is spending money to upgrade the Mount Brydges WWTF now, doesn’t this mean a decision has already been made that expansion the existing site is the preferred option for the Class EA?
Can the existing Mount Brydges Wastewater Treatment Facility be expanded at its current location?
It is possible that the existing Mount Brydges WWTF could be expanded at its current location; that is what this Class EA will help us to determine. The Class EA process will consider whether each alternative, including expanding the existing WWTF, meets the community’s long-term needs.
Has a specific location been identified for a potential new Wastewater Treatment Facility?
No, at this time we have not identified a potential location for a new WWTF. This alternative will be developed further as Phase 2 of the Class EA and will be communicated in PIC 3.
Will there be additional opportunities for public engagement in the EA process?
Yes, in total there are four (4) in-person Public Information Centres (PICs). PIC 1 was held on January 21, 2026. Upcoming PIC dates will be announced, and the public is welcome to provide input to the project team at any point during the project.
6. How will the development community be engaged through the EA process?
The project team has taken steps to ensure the development community receives all notices provided to the public. We are also committed to provide opportunities for direct engagement to ensure the specific areas of interest to the development community are understood and considered.
